New Year, New Lineup, New Songs, New Shows

We’re back and ready to ring in the new year. Much has been going on since we last checked in: Susie left to pursue non-rock band pursuits, we’ve added a new drummer, Mark, and Luke has moved up to guitar. We’ve been working on a bunch of new songs to complement the new lineup. We debuted a few at our show this weekend at the Fine Line and we’ll be rolling out more over the next couple months.

We have a show coming up at O’Gara’s on January 27, so come hear the new material. We’ll be adding more info on the new and improved The Cold Open soon.

The Cold Open @ Target Field (Kind of)

Just got the word that our song, Indian Summer, will be featured before the Twins game this Saturday, August 14. So, get there early and hear us on the biggest sound system we’ve ever been played on. Oh yeah, I hear the baseball game should be pretty fun too.

Mid West Music Fest

We’ll be in Winona next weekend for the Mid West Music Fest. It’s July 30-31 and spread among a number of venues in town. We’re excited to be included with Rogue Valley, Dessa, and the 757s, and we’ll do our best to rock it. We’re at the Senior Friendship Center (how could that not equal an awesome time?) from 7:30 to 8:15. Hope to see you there.

CDs are Here!

We just got the CDs today. It’s an amazing feeling to hold a year’s worth of work and struggle in my hand. They look and sound amazing. I have to thank everyone who’s made the CD possible: the band, Andy, Tom, Christine, and all of our fans who kept us moving along the past year.

Our first anniversary as a band was last week, and it’s incredible to think how far we’ve come already. We have some very exciting things planned for the next year, and the CD represents the first step toward them. We’ll have info posted soon about how to get one, but for now, your best bet is to find a band member, come to a show, or email aron@thecoldopen.com if you can’t wait. I’m off to give it another listen, I’ll check back later…

Behind the Mattress Poster

Our CD is set and is off to be manufactured. Your first chance to get it is to preorder at our show tomorrow at First Ave. Here is a poster to get you ready for release. It should be ready to sell toward the end of July and more details will be posted soon.

First Ave. and Our Album

We will be playing First Avenue’s mainroom on Friday, July 2 as part of a memorial for our friend and audio engineer, Andy Lindberg. Andy helped us prepare and record our debut album, Behind the Mattress. He approached the project not only with professionalism and skill, but also with enthusiasm. No matter how difficult or disappointing things were, Andy was there to offer a positive attitude and problem-solving skills.

Unfortunately, Andy died in a car accident after we finished tracking our recording but before they could be mixed. With Andy’s passing, we lost a good friend and a skilled engineer. We hope that you’ll join us in a celebration of the music Andy helped create and record by coming to his memorial concert on July 2.

The album that Andy helped us with is nearly finished and we have posted two final tracks that you can hear on the website. In addition, we will be taking preorders for the CD at Andy’s memorial concert. They will be $10, and if you buy it at the show, we’ll donate 10% toward Andy’s fund and family. Check out the new tracks and we’ll hopefully see you on July 2!

Basilica Battle of the Bands

4 bands enter. 2 bands go on to play at the Basilica Block Party. Come show us your support at the Cabooze on June 23 and help us win a spot. Here’s a poster you can pass around to all your friends:

Hope to see you there!

Next up: Mixing

We officially finished tracking for our upcoming album. That means all of the parts are recorded, and the album is now in the hands of our very capable audio engineer. So, we can now sit back, relax a little, and wait a month or so for the tracks to be finished up. In the meantime, we have some shows to prepare for and new songs to work on. We’ll keep you updated.

Welcome to the new web page

Please take a minute to check out our new website. It’s just one part of an exciting next few months for us that will include our CD Release and some exciting shows around Minnesota. Sign up for the mailing list and check back often to stay connected with the band. We have some great stuff in progress, and we’re excited to talk more about it in the next few weeks. Stay tuned!
